I am Irit Drob, an urban nature photographer, field researcher, and facilitator of tours, lectures, and projects that bridge people and wildlife—right here in Yarkon Park and its surrounding cities.
What Makes My Work Unique?
I’m not just a documentarian – I observe, study, and research.
For years, I’ve been conducting long-term field observations of golden jackals living in and around Yarkon Park. This has allowed me to follow their behavior over time.
My visual and written records form the foundation of a qualitative, non-intrusive research approach.
Some of the jackals have become familiar to me, and I’ve given them names – not to call them by name, but as a way to tell their stories and make them accessible to the public.
From this deep familiarity, I don’t just share their personal stories – I work to change public attitudes toward them.
Jackals often suffer from negative public perception, and I see it as my mission to explain, humanize, and show the other side of their existence beside us.
In addition to documenting and raising awareness, I help people who encounter wildlife in distress – connecting them with relevant authorities and wildlife organizations.
This is my way of bringing people closer to nature – even in the heart of the city.
People from across Israel and around the world reach out to me – not only to purchase photos, but also to learn about the jackals.

מה מייחד אותי?
אני לא רק מתעדת – אני עוקבת, לומדת, חוקרת.
מזה שנים אני עורכת תצפיות ארוכות טווח בתנים החיים בפארק הירקון וסביבתו, מה שמאפשר לי לעקוב אחר התנהגותם לאורך שנים. התיעודים שלי מהווים בסיס למחקר איכותני המבוסס על תצפית לא מתערבת.
את חלק מהתנים אני מזהה באופן אישי וקראתי להם בשמות לצורכי הסברה, כדי להנגיש את הסיפורים שלהם לציבור הרחב.
מתוך ההיכרות הזו אני מספרת לא רק את סיפורם האישי, אלא גם פועלת לשנות את היחס אליהם.
התנים לעיתים זוכים ליחסי ציבור שליליים, ואני רואה בזה שליחות: להסביר, להנגיש, ולהראות את הצד השני שחי לצדנו.
בנוסף לפעילות התיעוד וההסברה, אני מסייעת לאנשים מהציבור הרחב במקרים של מפגשים או מצוקה של חיות בר, תוך חיבור לגורמים מוסמכים ועמותות מתאימות.
זו הדרך שלי לקרב בין האדם לטבע – גם בלב העיר.
אנשים מכל רחבי הארץ והעולם פונים אליי – לא רק כדי לרכוש תמונות, אלא גם כדי לקבל ידע על התנים.
